Counselling Psychology is one of the most common forms of psychology, and is often what people first think of when deciding to pursue a career in psychology. there are many benefits from this career, but also many challenges.

Some of the benefits of Counselling Psychology are:

  • Development of observation and listening skills
  • Understanding of the human behaviour
  • Personal fulfillment
  • Plenty of care pathways and opportunities for the future
  • Being your own boss
  • Good pay- salary between $45,000 and $120,000


Some of the challenges of Counselling Psychology are:

  • Many years of study 
  • Long hours with little progress
  • Emotional exhaustion
  • Unchanging clients
  • Endless paperwork
